Reducing Stress During the Holidays
December 3, 2019

People love the holidays. But while fun, they tend to be a stressful time. You get into long lines, buy gifts for people you don’t even know very well, and travel to see people you like (and some you don’t like). You’re often rushed and compelled to do everything in a compressed manner, as you need to pack in as much as you can. If coping with that feeling has nearly been impossible for you, you’re not alone. There are several things you can do. Here are a few:
Keep Things Simple
Eliminate your worries by keeping it simple. Your gift doesn’t need to be the most expensive or extravagant. Find something that’s within your price range that the person will appreciate. Remind yourself that it’s the thought that counts.
Watch Your Health
It’s easy to overeat during the holidays. Don’t turn that into an excuse to let your health slide. Keep track of what you eat. Stay hydrated through all the busy holiday festivities and make sure you’re getting enough exercise.
Plan
Planning ahead helps you reduce the worry and stress of holiday travels. If you’ve got kids with you or pets, confirming the travel and booking details ahead of time will prevent problems and issues.
Do Something You Like
You’ll be less stressed if you find something about the holidays that you enjoy. Look forward to baking cookies with loved ones or going on a trip to somewhere you’ve never been. Doing something that excites you will take a lot of the stress and frustration away.
Reach Out to People
Let people know that you need extra support this time of the year. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, let your partner, friends, or family know. Don’t be afraid to ask for a hug or help. That can go a long way in helping you cope with the busiest time of the year.
